AH YEAH. Currently reading “The Trilogy” by Henryk Sienkiewicz.
My college’s library had the most recent english translations of the first two installments of The Trilogy, With Fire and Sword (Ogniem i Mieczem) and The Deluge (Potop). I’ll have to pick up the last, Pan Wolodyjowski, later.
How can I sum up these books….
Basically, they’re the national books of Poland. That might be confusing, since America doesn’t have a national book. Spain kinda does with Don Quixote, and Italy does as well.
The setting is 17th Century Poland/Lithuania, during a period of time known as the Deluge. Invasions and uprisings from all directions threatened to destroy and fragment the Polish/Lithuanian crown, hence the name.
Betrayals, honor, flat out full-scale war, Winged Hussars, essentially it’s similar to Game of Thrones but less idiotic.
In fact, I was supposed to read Game of Thrones/A Song of Fire and Ice, but I don’t think I’ve got much time for any reading besides this.
Sorry GRRM, but the Winged Hussars are just too awesome for me to resist.
